The kick off of the Tea party in Conroe Texas starring Joe Wurzelbacher and company. A video of his speech and the crowds that surround him. Although he talks of the bipartisanship of those attending. It seems that derogatory posters are squarely at the President. In other news it appears there was plenty of seats availabe, it also appears to be hot even in the building.
Wurzelbacher said the elected officials who are ignoring the constitution plan to succeed by telling the American public it is for their own good, when they are actually doing it for selfish reasons.
He is concerned with more than taxes, and also has strong views on immigration.
“I believe we need to spend a little more on illegal immigrants get them the (expletive) out of our (expletive) country, and close the borders down,” Wurzelbacher said. “We can do it."
Joe the plumber, covered the entire gamut of things he thinks and his life lessons. That Obama doesn't recognize this is a Christian Nation, well he has no business being in office....blah..blah...blah and blah. I listened to it and watched it in it's entirety and made some observations that were worth seeing first hand. Take a look and share your observations.
So I guess we better kick out all of those illegal immigrants from Europe and the rest of the world too. There are actually more illegals from other parts of the world than from Mexico. But no, they show they are just as selective about the law because they are only going after the people that would hurt them economically.
Christian Nation
People who think this need to read the 1st Amendment again.
There are actually more illegals from other parts of the world than from Mexico.
Are you kidding me? 57% of the illegals in this country are from Mexico with another 24% from Latin nations. As far as you first amendment comment, maybe you should read it yourself. It grants freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion
I really don't see what is so hard to understand about this sentence, the very first one in the bill of rights.
The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment prohibits the establishment of a national religion by the Congress or the preference of one religion over another, non-religion over religion, or religion over non-religion.
There are actually more illegals from other parts of the world than from Mexico.
Wow, my BS alarm just woke up the whole neighborhood. Somewhere around 80% of illegals are from Mexico or Central/South America. There are more illegal Chinese than Europeans. Where did you pull that malarkey from?
So, for live-in-country illegals, yes. You are correct there. However, at any given point in time there are a large number of people in the country "illegally." The most common of which are simply overstaying on a valid visa. A huge number of people do this, many of them from the wealthier nations of the world.
....Recommends Forced Deportation of Immigrants.
Duhhhh, isn't that what deportation is. Sending you home when you don't want to...or in other words by force.
I believe Vatican City is a Christian Nation;....I strongly encourage Joe the Moron Plumber to emigrate there
At Texas Tea Party, Joe The Plumber Recommends Forced Deportation of Immigrants
This is bad why?? You mean we might actually FOLLOW THE LAWS ALREADY ESTABLISHED? Gasp!! With unemployment at over 10 percent this would be a good thing and also save our nation as a whole billions of dollars as well. Illegal is illegal. Illegal = Criminals. It's that simple.
also save our nation as a whole billions of dollars as well.
Actually if we kicked out all the illegals our economy would sink even faster than it already is. Domestic American labor is expensive.
Domestic American labor is expensive.
Nonsense. Do you belive everything MegaCorp tells you?
What, compared to the guy who is in the country illegally, and is willing to work 12 hour days at or below minimum wage without benefits? And actually likes the job and doesn't complain because it is better than what he got in his home country? Bringing in cheap immigrant labor to fill the bottom part of the economy has been going on in this country for centuries, and they often do jobs that native-born Americans aren't willing to do, but still need to be done.
When you consider the fact that a large percentage of them don't pay any sort of taxes, and then add the fact that they send most of their money home to another country, they are in fact MUCH more expensive to our society. The plain fact is that the large companies love having them here because they depress wages all across the board. Before the governments decided that it was a bad thing for children to work, a lot of these farm jobs were done by children during their summer vacations. They got a chance to earn money, understand that physical labor isn't an evil thing, and earn some REAL self esteem by being useful members of the community. Also, given the current economic climate, I'm thinking you'd find quite a few people who would do those jobs if they weren't afraid of having to work with a bunch of people who don't speak their language and resent having them on the job.
Our country saw it's biggest boost in prosperity when wages were climbing the fastest, leading to higher prices. It's the trickle sideways, down and up theory. Until we all realize that we're in this together, MegaCorp, ACME Inc and the plethora of government kingdoms are going to divide and conquer us. They don't care if they're ruling over a 3rd world country, just that they're ruling.
What looks cheaper today may be much more costly in the long run.
Actually if we kicked out all the illegals our economy would sink even faster than it already is. Domestic American labor is expensive.
No proof of that. So your okay that business's break the laws and pay illegals below minimum wage standards (which hurts everyone) if it benefits a few Noted.
Simplistic, WOW, we agree on something, that hardly ever happens. It must prove that it's true, yes? High five dude or dudette.
how could anyone actually suggest the immigration laws be enforced?
maybe someone who gets the fact that illegals are "also" responsible for our heathcare costs? someone who might even rekon we would not require "the govt to mandate that we are requried by law to buy health insurance if we deported the illegals?
rsather, I don't know where you got your information. It sounds like you've been listening to Rush Limbaugh or one of his corporate pals.
Illegals are huge burden on our economy. They only benefit the corporate farmers and rich people who hire them. They send, by the last statistics I found, about one trillion a month back to their own countries - they do not pay taxes here on that money. The argument, "Do you want to pay $4 for an orange?" is old and tiresome and yes, I would like to pay $4 for an orange. Right now, with the money we put out for illegals' kids education, their food stamps, housing assistance, law enforcement and legal system costs, their medical care esp. their maternity costs (most maternity wards in the larger cities where illegals congregate are filled with about 90% illegals having babies, paid for the taxpayer), their emergency room visits and acute care costs for hemodialysis, trauma care when they get the crap beat out of themselves by another illegal or they are in a car accident, and of course the increased cost of insurance we all pay because they buy old clunkers and drive them without insurance and don't know how to drive or how to read the road signs, so they have 4x the accidents of the average driver.
Oh yeah, illegal labor is so worth it (sarcasm).
They take jobs that American workers will do not do at the rate of the pay the greedy employers want to pay. They don't want to pay benefits, FICA, etc. SO, that expense is passed on to the rest of us.
And, pleeeeeeeease shut up about this being a nation of immigrants and we all have to leave except the Indians. Our ancestors FOUGHT for this land and I'm sure at some point the Indians fought someone for this land a few thousand years ago. By the logic of that argument, no one on earth should be living in their own country unless they can go back 10,000 years and prove it was theirs then.
Illegals are leeches sucking the life blood out of this economy and our society. They are thieves. Get rid of them by taking away the ridiculous citizenship by birth law - that alone will discourage a few million from coming here. If you're not legal, your kid isn't a citizen.
Agreed.
Simplistic, WOW, we agree on something, that hardly ever happens.
Cool. :) I've noticed that some of my regular sparring peeps on political seeds that I almost never agree with... but when it comes to other non-political / religious issues... we have more in common then you may think. Same is true to most my personal friends outside of the Vine. Politics / Religion are like the two debates that you can almost never win or change someones mind on... even though we all still try. lol. Oh yeah.. and I'm a dude.
They only benefit the corporate farmers and rich people who hire them.
That's my point. The people who are in charge and the people who actually do most of the hiring love them. I said nothing about this being healthy for the US.
However,
Get rid of them by taking away the ridiculous citizenship by birth law
And your alternative would be? Some bureaucrat telling us who is a citizen and who isn't?
And your alternative would be? Some bureaucrat telling us who is a citizen and who isn't?
No. Germany did a similar thing to curve illegal immigration. Change the law to where the parents or at least one parent (The Mother) is a USA citizen for her kid to be one. If not.. then the kid shouldn't be either just because he got popped out on USA soil. That will nip the anchor baby thing right in the butt and stop prego Mexicans from running across the border risking themselves and there kid just to get citizenship or use it as leverage to stay. It's appalling and despicable this even happens to begin with.
what difference does it matter what country an illegal is from, kick them all out
And, pleeeeeeeease shut up about this being a nation of immigrants and we all have to leave except the Indians.
Thank you!! I love it when they use that stupid line...I always wonder at those who use that line if they are willing to just lock up their houses, go to the nearest Indian Reservation, hand them their house keys and walk away, because after all, their HOUSES are on land once owned by Indians and they are obviously living there illegally themselves mortgage or no mortgage, since, according to them, we are the "illegals" who stole from the indians! The ones stupid enough to use that line continually NEVER seem to do that, now do they?
I wanna see the Hollywood stars do it first like Janine Garafalo, give their mega million buck mansions back to the Indians and just walk away due to the "principle" they are always trying to shove down our throats that we are the illegals and therefore should be willing to put up with millions of "new" illegals invading our countries....so far, no Hollywood stars have turned their houses and land over...
Deporting the immigrants is the social equivilant to changing a bandaid - it solves the immediate problem, but doesn't cure the symptom. Face it, they'll just be back the next day. The ONLY way to curb illegal immigration is to make the fine for businesses that hire them so severe that it completely negates the profitibility in hiring them.
If a business hires an illegal for $100 a week, gets fined $1000 a week and makes $10k in profit off that illegal in that same week, that's only good a business decision for that business to continue doing so. Now, if that business were getting fined $100k a week per immigrant instead...
If you want to stop a problem, you have to hit that problem where it truly hurts - in the pocketbook.
Some of the worst offenders that hire illegals are the ones yelling to deport them. Of course they want you to deport them, they don't have to pay them anything at all then, just hire another illegal tomorrow, get them deported ... rinse and repeat.
It is a scam, the dumb sign and gun toting rednecks are eating this sh!t up like it was ranch dressing.
Also, if you could deport then of Friday afternoon that would be great. dDon't forget to buy from my company, we are 100% American, if you don't count our workforce which you just deported.
I challenge all people here to prove you are an American Citizen... Don't show me your drivers license or a birth certificate, those could be faked. If I stop you on the street and ask you to prove you are a citizen and if you can't right then you will be deported what would you do.... that is what you are asking the government to do. Can we say POLICE STATE. I know lets all have "papers" that prove we are legal. I would love to have police stand at every doorway and say "papers please" you know like they did in NAZI Germany.
Be careful what you ask for people. I would remind you that most of the things that we say are bad now, eg. social programs, started out as a publicly supported ideas.
Do you really want to give the government that kind of power?? To just deport someone with no due process?? If we do have due process there goes billions of dollars on lawyers fees and prison stays.
As for fining the employers, doesn't that go against the idea of "no government intervention" of business??? You cant have it both ways.
We are not saying gestapo style here. Just when you get pulled over by a cop.. he should be allowed to ask you that and you should be able to proof it. A national ID card which is incorporated into your licence or visa versa would be simple and not an extra burden on you the citizen. Neither would carrying around an ID card if you don't drive. Germany and many European countries have the national ID thing and cops don't stop you anytime they want to ask for ID. They have to have probobale cause just like cops do here. Your taking it to the extreme whatthetruth52.
I don't think I am taking it to the extremes because that is what could happen... We live in a free country. The right talks all the time about losing freedoms, that government shouldn't interfere with our lives, that government should be small and unobtrusive. Then we want a national ID card?? Isn't that a little socialist there?? Who is to say what "probable cause" is.
Isn't it the right that continually tells us that we shouldn't try to imitate European countries?? Are not most of the countries that you are talking about socialist countries?
I would also point out that the ID's we use now prone to counterfeiting, what makes you believe that some other form of ID won't be able to be counterfeited. As I stated it is hard to actually prove you are a citizen if you are pressed to do so. How do I know that your ID is not counterfeit? If I, as a policeman, pull you over for a broken light and am having a bad day what is to stop me from trying to deport you if I don't like your "looks". What kind of racial profiling will happen?? Do we suspect someone because they are Latino??
I have a friend whose business was raided for illegals they found several of them. My friend was shocked. They all had what looked like legitimate ID's, social security cards, two had green cards. Are our employers now going to become the immigration department. Was my friend supposed to question the validity of the ID presented to him?? Should he be fined for accepting the "false" ID??
Then we want a national ID card?? Isn't that a little socialist there?? Who is to say what "probable cause" is.
Some could view it as that way... but I see it being no different then every legal American having a SS card, a drivers license, ID card, or a Passport, birth certificate. It would help keep everything more legit and easier, and help prevent fraud and illegals abusing the system.
I would also point out that the ID's we use now prone to counterfeiting, what makes you believe that some other form of ID won't be able to be counterfeited.
Actually it would be damn hard to counterfeit. The new Passports have an electronic chip implanted which is very secure. That along with the other anti counterfeit measures in place... its about as secure of a document as humanly possible today. Some states are introducing the E-chip into new drivers licensing starting soon. (I think my state of Washington is doing so as well).. and its very secure.. The new WA state E-chip Drivers licence we can to travel to Canada / Mexico in place of a passport I believe (don't quote me on that though) it may have changed.
I have a friend whose business was raided for illegals they found several of them. My friend was shocked. They all had what looked like legitimate ID's, social security cards, two had green cards. With a secure national ID card... those illegals wouldn't have been able to fake it. Also if they would actually pass the E-Verify system.. your friend would have been able to cross reference the SS database to verify they were indeed legit. Being how both those two tools are not available yet... I don't see that your friend should be fined if it was an innocent accident. I think the illegals caught should be fined, deported, and charged with fraud for doing so. If your friend had "knowingly" done so on purpose.. then it would be a different story. This just shows how criminal these illegals will go.
Also how is it different than every male that turns 18 has to register for the selective service?
I applaud you my friend. (friend request sent)
Your argument is sound and viable. You have done your homework and I am impressed. You have done very well in this debate, I concede your point. Congratulations.
I see where you are going with this. Isn't modern technology wonderful. I don't necessarily agree that this is the final solution but you have quieted my concerns about your idea. I hope to meet you again on the debating field..
Thanks. Request accepted!
whatthetruth, I've already had to prove that I'm a US citizen when I moved back to CA and had to prove so in order to get a driver's license.
My wife and I were in Indio, CA and were the only people speaking English in a room with about 60 people. If you're a foreigner, all you need to get a d/l is a stamped visa. If you're a citizen you have to jump through a LOT of hoops. Pretty much all states have the same requirements now, thanks to the hypocritically named "Patriot Act"
Pretty discouraging.
The Patriot Act is about the most unpatriotic thing I have seen in my life.
I agree with you, Stone.
Who keeps giving this guy 15min of fame?
Looks like he is "preaching to the choir" as the saying goes. Thought it is kind of scary how his thought process goes and that there is more than a handful of people that go along with it.
And just think, he owes all of his "fame" to President Obama.
Sheesh
well I see a few birthers were there setting the tone. *chuckle* Joe is making speaking appearances, sounding like a male Palin-ite. The Tea Parties tomorrow will be fun to see, I hear they are merging with the KKK, skin-heads and John Birchers. Do any of them actually live in this century??
Hey Teresa, nice seed, thanks!
Speaking of Palin she resigned today as governor of Alaska. The going got tough and she got going. Seems she has always been a quitter but guess that is another seed.
Oh! I thought of the perfect quote for this! It comes from a story series I am reading known as the Sword of Truth: Wizards First Rule
It goes like this
"People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."
I don't have a problem with deporting illegals.
I don't have a problem with deporting illegals.
Neither do I. Nothing wrong with sending these folks back and working to get back into this country the LEGAL way.
SonOfLiberty2008 and NYPeach, Please prove you are am American citizen. If you cant in the next 5 minutes we are going to deport you. I am sorry your license could be a fake do you have your birth certificate on you. well it is a copy so that is no good, anything else..... NO well lets go.
See my post in 1.25. Can you say POLICE STATE I would prefer to live in a place that is free from proving I am a citizen, just so you know I don't think I could prove I am a citizen right this minute either. (Going to look for paper work now)
Whatthetruth, I've already had to do so to get a driver's license. See my post #1.32. Since I've done so, they can scan my d/l and see that I've proven I'm a citizen. Welcome to the 21st century.
Well there you go again Joe.
I'm sure if you were to lead them out they would follow. You know, your leadership abilities and all.
Wouldn't this be called kidnapping and maybe even assault depending on how much force it took.
Nope. They are illegal and not allowed here. So nope. Is it kidnapping or assault if you trespass unto private property or a military facility and get thrown down with force, arrested, and carried away? Nope. Same thing.
Wouldn't this be called kidnapping and maybe even assault depending on how much force it took.
Skye, WOW, that's way up there on the ignorance chart. What grade are you in? Do you understand that we have a government to make and enforce laws?
Son of Liberty-knock it off personal attacks are against the COH. This is a warning next time I will delete.
How was the above statement a personal attack?
teresa, pointing out ignorance was not meant to be a personal attack. I'm very much opposed to government overreaching it's powers, but deportation of persons in this country illegally is very clearly within it's Constitutional powers. Skye's comment clearly showed even the basic understanding of how our legal system works. The definition of ignorance is lack of knowledge. I didn't call him/her stupid, I just pointed out his/her lack of knowledge. In what way is that a personal attack?
Son of Liberty, She asked a question. pointing out ignorance was not meant to be a personal attack. and then followed by this : What grade are you in?
It is clearly personal. A rule of thumb, if you are saying something to someone that you would consider an insult if someone said it to you, don't say it.
but deportation of persons in this country illegally is very clearly within it's Constitutional powers. Yes but you cannot just round them up and deport them. Do you have any idea how many undocumented immigrants we are holding already? This is because there are criteria that must be met in this area. There are people that have been held for years waiting for an immigration hearing. I am talking about women, men and children. We cannot round them up like cattle and drop them off on the otherside of one of our borders. What are we going to do decide by the color of their skin whether we drop them off South of the Border or North of the Border? Etc....? They are first and foremost people. It is not as simple as Joe thinks. It is probably more expensive then most realize and it is just about as difficult as unscrambling an egg and putting it back in its shell. We need to process the people we are holding now. As well as come up with long term solutions. The rhetoric that Joe employs keeps the focus off of the complexities and make it impossible to address with any amount of reason. No real solutions emerge from that type of banter, not only that it is an impossible to even have a reasonable discussion because of it. Maybe Skye showed more understanding than you realized. She asked a question and did not expand on why she thought that way. You decided it was ignorance and it is more likely her question was based on an understanding of these complexities.
My apologies, you have a good point on the grade thing.
Yes but you cannot just round them up and deport them
Why not? The fact that our government is lax in it's enforcement of our laws is not a justification for ignoring our laws. It would seem clear to me that it would be a reason for increased enforcement. Skye showed no sort of understanding of our laws, which is what I stated. Your fuzzy "they're all people" and "complexities" statements would seem to indicate that you don't want these laws enforced. Why is that?
Is it just me, or are some of these statements beginning to resemble something akin to the xenophobic grumblings that led to the establishment of the Nazis?
Is it just me, or are some of these statements beginning to resemble something akin to the xenophobic grumblings that led to the establishment of the Nazis?
Why? were the Nazi's overun with approx 20 million illegals too? Demanding citizenship? Demanding we speak THEIR language because they don't want to learn ours? Flying their flag over ours? Singing our national anthem in spanish? Just curious...
Also just curious, when do we stop? I mean, yea, you all "pro-illegals" seem to think no big thing, these poor poor people are just trying to make life better for their families...so, what do you think about probably a good 200 million Chinese who desperately want to move here to make life better for THEIR families too? Bring them all in? What about probably the same amount of people, 200 million east Indians? Bring them in too? I mean WHY are we discriminating against other nationalities in favor of latinos who make up approx 80% of the 20 million illegals in this country? I can imagine several million Russians would like to move here for the same reason, and a couple million more from the former Russian satellite countries, probably a good 10-15 million southeast asians....toss in some regular europeans (ie French/German/Brits/Italians etc), Japanese, Australians and Canadians so, just WHEN do we stop, and WHY are we being so biased towards Latinos when if we are going to accept 20 million "illegals" lets spread them out representitive of those who want to come here desperately from all parts of the world? Just because Latinos are "closer" and we make it super easy for them to cross our unguarded borders doesn't mean they have any more right to be here than any person from any other country who wants a better life for THEIR families too....we could SINK this country filling it up with desperate immigrants from all over the world if we just said "come on down"!
Exactly!
SonofLiberty2008, I agree with you in principle, Now how are we going to pay for it?? Seriously, where do we get the money to feed, house, get lawyers for, and court costs for all 20 million illegals. You are not suggesting that we don't follow the laws set up for deportation are you?? That means that they get a hearing and are presumed innocent and all the other things that make us a law abiding country.
here are some figures for you, or here, or maybe here
We are so quick to say deport them but not so quick on coming up with the money.....
We are so quick to say deport them but not so quick on coming up with the money.....
If we can come up with the money for Aircraft carriers.... spent the most money on our military (which equals half the Worlds spending combined on military money) and fund billion dollar wars, spend trillions on bailouts and a budget, and a trillion on universal heath care, then spending a fraction of that money to get rid of illegal criminals would be a small price to pay.
I don't disagree with you simplistic reality, but then part of this article and the tea bag thing is "stop spending money we don't have". Wouldn't this just be a bigger burden on what is already an overloaded system?? I am merely pointing out that we can't have it both ways. Also I would ask how we intend to keep them out?? are we going to post a 24 hour watch on every inch of the border?? Build a wall like the one in Berlin that the whole world including us hated?? I am just trying to get people to think about, what seems at first glance to be a simple issue, but is actually a complicated one.
whatthetruth52,
You have done a good job at pointing out some of the complexities of this problem. Even those that want the undocumented workers deported are sometimes the last ones to support the trade offs that would have to occur. A good example is seen with something like the airline carriers that Simplistic Realty speaks of. Neoconservatives that take a hard line stance on immigration would not want to cut back or put a temporary moratorium on any part of the weaponry program in order to fund deportations of the illegal immigrants. This group is not alone in their thinking because we all think that way to a certain extent. We are all willing to moth ball something that we don't see a need for. Coming up with a solution to illegal immigration that will satisfy everyone is an impossibility; that is something I am fairly sure we all agree with. A solution that the majority of Americans can stomach is probably as good as we can do. The time it will take is another matter altogether.
Thank you teresa, People mistake my stance on issues as having the answers. I don't, I will be the first to admit that. I just ask questions to people that think they know the answers. If you know the answers you should be able to articulate them. We all think that government is so easy, when you take the time to examine all the nuances and "politicking" then it becomes complicated. What might be perfectly acceptable to you might be poison to me. Getting you and I to agree is the tricky part.
I can agree to both the statements above and can see you two's perspective. Also with our national debt at historic levels... the reality is... we as a nation are going to have to make sacrifices to get us out of the hole. They say the first thing about holes is when you find yourself in one... to stop digging! Well our Government dosen't seem to grasp this concept and its literally going to screw my generation (as a young American) and my 2 year olds if this isn't taken care of. I know well enough to not even consider getting any social security benefits when I retire. It simply won't even be around by then at the current status of things. We are going to have to tighten our belts as a nation to become financially sound again. As the richest most powerful super power I find it appalling we are even in this situation. The way our Gov. blows money like its literally paper is economics you wouldn't teach your kids or live by yourself if you were smart. That's what these tea parties are all about. Getting our Government back to fiscal responsibility... smaller Government... etc etc. The time for hand outs, blowing money to other countries, etc etc is over. We can't afford it anymore. If it means cutting some pet projects in the military to help.. so be it. We will still be top dog in that regard. Giving grants, cheap education, handouts to immigrants? That needs to stop too. It's out of hand. People need to wake up and realize that.
SR, I agree that we need to stop digging. I too want to get back to fiscal responsibility, I will ask you the same question I have asked others in this situation.. Exactly what will you cut. You talk about the money to other countries, that is a start. How do we get the federal government to take a pay cut? How do we get "smaller" government and what is that?? Grants and cheap education? I would dispute that with you, we have one of the most expensive education systems in the world that hands out worthless degrees. I totally agree that handouts to illegals needs to stop. Now we are about 1% of what needs to be cut to balance the budget. We are talking about a TRILLION dollars. I am only asking where you would start making cuts and how to get them through our current system. I am not challenging your idea, I am just asking for detail.
Getting our Government back to fiscal responsibility... smaller Government... etc etc.
So we are re-electing Andrew Jackson? That was the last time we actually had those things.
Now I know these Tea Parties are a waste of time, dealing with losers like Joe "the fraud Plumber maybe we should deport good ole Joe along with the illegals.
Hold on. Texas tea. Isn't that oil? Oh yea, that's what the tea parties are really all about. Helping us drill ourselves to oblivion. I knew the Republicans would destroy it all in the end.
I heard Joe the Plumber is going to run for Governor of Alaska.
Delightful thought, Tappy!!.....hah-hah;~)
Clintus, assuming that any person who wants our immigration laws enforced is some sort of xenophobe is just that...........an assumption. Having worked in construction in the SW for many years, I've worked with a lot of Mexicans, Hondurans, Guatamalans etc. In the main I've found them to be hardworking and good team members.
The fact remains that illegals depress wages for everyone. When I was married in 1975 in AZ, I made $10/hr building houses. In the early 80s I made $25/hr in commercial and residential construction here in the LA area. Now that almost all the construction is done by Hispanic immigrants, legal and mostly illegal, almost nobody makes more than $15hr, and given the reality of rising prices, that's a pretty severe drop in real earnings. The cost of housing keeps increasing, so this means that the builders are making a larger profit, thus concentrating wealth at the top of the food chain. This is clearly a bad thing for nearly all of us.
The fact also remains that people who work for such cheap wages can't afford luxuries like health and auto insurance, and quite often have to share housing, putting a strain on the buildings where they live, and an added strain on the health care system because of the increase in disease due to overcrowding.
The fact also remains that most illegals send most of the money they make home to their families, thus draining large sums of money from our economy.
The fact also remains that most work under the table, and don't pay any taxes other than sales tax, which by the way is one reason I am in favor of a federal sales tax.
We need to get them out of here since they are here illegally. They have robbed so many folks of jobs in my area we hate them... The work they do is extremely sloppy to boot..The owner is an idiot to hire them in the first place 8( cause we always come back a year later to rip out and fix what they screwed up.;
Jow the Plumber.. what are we going to do with you
When did this guy start having the intelligence to make such "accurate, descriptive and intelligent"(Sarcasm) comments, about anything. These Tea Parties, while the are poltical gatherings seem to always emberass the Republican party. Mostly due to the fat that most of the people who come to them are racisit, backwater people who haven't left the country or their own state.
I am not for anyone coming here illegally for many reasons, mainly security. But have you ever driven through El Paso on I-10? On one side of the Rio Grande you have beautiful buildings and houses. Not a stones throw across the river you have virtual shacks, and I do mean shacks. You have wall to wall pieces of tin and wood stacked up into falling down shelters. These people look across the river everyday at opulence and they do not want to live better? This does not make it right, of course, but it does explain a lot.
Truman and Eisenhower both deported many illegal immigrant after World War II. They were deported for the same reasons we see now. After World War II many soldiers came home to no jobs and the administrations started deportations. Americans got the jobs that were badly needed for American workers. Simple!! Eisenhower called his legislation "Operation Wetback".
We'd all like to get by with lower spending, yet the cut taxes & cut government approach of the Reagan/Bush years has already been given 3 decades, to deliver on the prosperity it was supposed to create -- found a cool site; Balkingpoints ; incredible satellite view of earth
The trickling down sensation you have been feeling those last 3 decades was Wall Street pissing on you.
As much as I disagree with old "Joe's" statements, I will defend his right to make it to my death. If we shut one loud mouth, we must shut them all. Without freedom of speech, this country would collapse into a dictatorship very quickly. Public opinion does count. Keep flapping those gums, Joe. Most of us see you for what you are -- a pathetic tool trying to make a quick buck. As for those who disagree with Joe, let's flap our gums, too. In this country it is supposed to be majority rule. We need to make our opinions heard!
Penni, Nobody is trying to silence Joe-the -Plumber. Those that would benefit the most from him being quiet are the very ones that fund his speaking tours. I for example love it when he speaks for the conservatives because it cheapens their message.
Somebody please refresh my memory: Why would anyone -- especially news outlets -- consider anything Mr. Wurzelbacker (or Mr. JoethePlumber, or whatever) newsworthy for any reason?
Hi bgates, slow news day?;~)
I'm not sure why any media outlet would give him the time of day to be honest....
You've got me there, teresa! But then you usually do. Great observation.
I still say a bounty would be an ideal solution. Those who are unemployed can now replace their incomes with finding illegals so they can be deported.
Brilliant idea, anyone with a tan would have to constantly prove their citizenship.
WildWonderful,
How many deaths caused by over-zealous bounty hunters would it take to convince you this is a dangerous, immoral idea?
Wild............., These are people we are talking about. Your idea goes against everything that makes America great. It is wrong on so many levels and I am sickened that anyone thinks that is even an option. Wow..wow....wow.
teresa
This are people who inflict much harm on our nation from every aspect of life. A couple years ago I received a call from my sister. She called to tell me her daughter my niece had been run over my a car while she was jogging on the trail. She was hit by an ILLEGAL MEXICAN. When I reached the hospital to see my beautiful niece she had suffered a broken tibula and fibula, had a punctured lung and her back was broken. In addition she was severely road burned. These people who break into our country are criminals. Being allowed to commit crimes goes against everything that makes America great. I am sickened you think its fine and dandy to welcome illegal people into our country that destroy our families.
bgates
Read my post to teresa. Why do you want to support criminals who break into our country ????
