So, for live-in-country illegals, yes. You are correct there. However, at any given point in time there are a large number of people in the country "illegally." The most common of which are simply overstaying on a valid visa. A huge number of people do this, many of them from the wealthier nations of the world.

What, compared to the guy who is in the country illegally, and is willing to work 12 hour days at or below minimum wage without benefits? And actually likes the job and doesn't complain because it is better than what he got in his home country? Bringing in cheap immigrant labor to fill the bottom part of the economy has been going on in this country for centuries, and they often do jobs that native-born Americans aren't willing to do, but still need to be done.

When you consider the fact that a large percentage of them don't pay any sort of taxes, and then add the fact that they send most of their money home to another country, they are in fact MUCH more expensive to our society. The plain fact is that the large companies love having them here because they depress wages all across the board. Before the governments decided that it was a bad thing for children to work, a lot of these farm jobs were done by children during their summer vacations. They got a chance to earn money, understand that physical labor isn't an evil thing, and earn some REAL self esteem by being useful members of the community. Also, given the current economic climate, I'm thinking you'd find quite a few people who would do those jobs if they weren't afraid of having to work with a bunch of people who don't speak their language and resent having them on the job.

Our country saw it's biggest boost in prosperity when wages were climbing the fastest, leading to higher prices. It's the trickle sideways, down and up theory. Until we all realize that we're in this together, MegaCorp, ACME Inc and the plethora of government kingdoms are going to divide and conquer us. Illegals are huge burden on our economy. They only benefit the corporate farmers and rich people who hire them. They send, by the last statistics I found, about one trillion a month back to their own countries - they do not pay taxes here on that money. The argument, "Do you want to pay $4 for an orange?" is old and tiresome and yes, I would like to pay $4 for an orange. Right now, with the money we put out for illegals' kids education, their food stamps, housing assistance, law enforcement and legal system costs, their medical care esp. their maternity costs (most maternity wards in the larger cities where illegals congregate are filled with about 90% illegals having babies, paid for the taxpayer), their emergency room visits and acute care costs for hemodialysis, trauma care when they get the crap beat out of themselves by another illegal or they are in a car accident, and of course the increased cost of insurance we all pay because they buy old clunkers and drive them without insurance and don't know how to drive or how to read the road signs, so they have 4x the accidents of the average driver.

They take jobs that American workers will do not do at the rate of the pay the greedy employers want to pay. They don't want to pay benefits, FICA, etc. SO, that expense is passed on to the rest of us.

Cool. :) I've noticed that some of my regular sparring peeps on political seeds that I almost never agree with... but when it comes to other non-political / religious issues... we have more in common then you may think. Same is true to most my personal friends outside of the Vine. Politics / Religion are like the two debates that you can almost never win or change someones mind on... even though we all still try. lol. Oh yeah.. and I'm a dude.

No. Germany did a similar thing to curve illegal immigration. Change the law to where the parents or at least one parent (The Mother) is a USA citizen for her kid to be one. If not.. then the kid shouldn't be either just because he got popped out on USA soil. That will nip the anchor baby thing right in the butt and stop prego Mexicans from running across the border risking themselves and there kid just to get citizenship or use it as leverage to stay. It's appalling and despicable this even happens to begin with.

I love it when they use that stupid line...I always wonder at those who use that line if they are willing to just lock up their houses, go to the nearest Indian Reservation, hand them their house keys and walk away, because after all, their HOUSES are on land once owned by Indians and they are obviously living there illegally themselves mortgage or no mortgage, since, according to them, we are the "illegals" who stole from the indians! Deporting the immigrants is the social equivilant to changing a bandaid - it solves the immediate problem, but doesn't cure the symptom. Face it, they'll just be back the next day. The ONLY way to curb illegal immigration is to make the fine for businesses that hire them so severe that it completely negates the profitibility in hiring them.

If a business hires an illegal for $100 a week, gets fined $1000 a week and makes $10k in profit off that illegal in that same week, that's only good a business decision for that business to continue doing so. Now, if that business were getting fined $100k a week per immigrant instead...

If you want to stop a problem, you have to hit that problem where it truly hurts - in the pocketbook.

Some of the worst offenders that hire illegals are the ones yelling to deport them. Of course they want you to deport them, they don't have to pay them anything at all then, just hire another illegal tomorrow, get them deported ... rinse and repeat.

I challenge all people here to prove you are an American Citizen... Don't show me your drivers license or a birth certificate, those could be faked. If I stop you on the street and ask you to prove you are a citizen and if you can't right then you will be deported what would you do.... that is what you are asking the government to do. Can we say POLICE STATE. I know lets all have "papers" that prove we are legal. I would love to have police stand at every doorway and say "papers please" you know like they did in NAZI Germany.

As for fining the employers, doesn't that go against the idea of "no government intervention" of business??? You cant have it both ways.

We are not saying gestapo style here. Just when you get pulled over by a cop.. he should be allowed to ask you that and you should be able to proof it. A national ID card which is incorporated into your licence or visa versa would be simple and not an extra burden on you the citizen. Neither would carrying around an ID card if you don't drive. Germany and many European countries have the national ID thing and cops don't stop you anytime they want to ask for ID. They have to have probobale cause just like cops do here. I don't think I am taking it to the extremes because that is what could happen... We live in a free country. The right talks all the time about losing freedoms, that government shouldn't interfere with our lives, that government should be small and unobtrusive. Then we want a national ID card?? Isn't that a little socialist there?? Who is to say what "probable cause" is.

I would also point out that the ID's we use now prone to counterfeiting, what makes you believe that some other form of ID won't be able to be counterfeited. As I stated it is hard to actually prove you are a citizen if you are pressed to do so. How do I know that your ID is not counterfeit? If I, as a policeman, pull you over for a broken light and am having a bad day what is to stop me from trying to deport you if I don't like your "looks". What kind of racial profiling will happen?? Do we suspect someone because they are Latino??

I have a friend whose business was raided for illegals they found several of them. My friend was shocked. They all had what looked like legitimate ID's, social security cards, two had green cards. Are our employers now going to become the immigration department. Was my friend supposed to question the validity of the ID presented to him?? Should he be fined for accepting the "false" ID??

Some could view it as that way... but I see it being no different then every legal American having a SS card, a drivers license, ID card, or a Passport, birth certificate. It would help keep everything more legit and easier, and help prevent fraud and illegals abusing the system.

Actually it would be damn hard to counterfeit. The new Passports have an electronic chip implanted which is very secure. That along with the other anti counterfeit measures in place... its about as secure of a document as humanly possible today. Some states are introducing the E-chip into new drivers licensing starting soon. (I think my state of Washington is doing so as well).. and its very secure.. The new WA state E-chip Drivers licence we can to travel to Canada / Mexico in place of a passport I believe (don't quote me on that though) it may have changed.

With a secure national ID card... those illegals wouldn't have been able to fake it. Also if they would actually pass the E-Verify system.. your friend would have been able to cross reference the SS database to verify they were indeed legit. Being how both those two tools are not available yet... I don't see that your friend should be fined if it was an innocent accident. I think the illegals caught should be fined, deported, and charged with fraud for doing so. If your friend had "knowingly" done so on purpose.. then it would be a different story. This just shows how criminal these illegals will go.

whatthetruth, I've already had to prove that I'm a US citizen when I moved back to CA and had to prove so in order to get a driver's license.

My wife and I were in Indio, CA and were the only people speaking English in a room with about 60 people. If you're a foreigner, all you need to get a d/l is a stamped visa. If you're a citizen you have to jump through a LOT of hoops. Pretty much all states have the same requirements now, thanks to the hypocritically named "Patriot Act"

Pretty discouraging.
